Problem:
The Citrix Server estate of a global steel manufacturer presented a
formidable challenge, encompassing a diverse array of legacy operating
systems ranging from Server 2003 32Bit with Citrix Presentation Server 4.0
to Server 2019 running Citrix Xenapp 7.1, interspersed with numerous
intermediate versions. This complexity was exacerbated by the absence of
documentation concerning application configurations, and the
non-existence of application installers further compounded the issue.
Regrettably, the requisite expertise within the organization, vendor, or
partner network was unavailable, adding another layer of complexity to the
situation.
The initial objective was to migrate existing 1200 Citrix-published applications across 200 servers without installers to modern Microsoft servers, leveraging the latest
version of Citrix, with the ultimate goal of delivering applications via Citrix
Application Layer technology.
Solution:
The Zaptz Ezysnap technology emerged as a game-changer. It
autonomously extracted or 'cloned' applications from the source Citrix
Server, bypassing the constraints of the outdated operating system and
Citrix platform. This process necessitated only local administrator access
to the source server, eliminating the need for business involvement.
Subsequently, the Ezysnap application layer underwent rigorous analysis to
ensure compatibility with Server 2022 and 64Bit architecture. Detailed Blueprinting
reports were generated, outlining connection strings, integration points,
and essential application dependencies.
The Ezysnap application images underwent an automated transformation
process, meticulously remediated to ensure flawless deployment on
modern operating systems.
Outcome:
Midway through the project, the customer pivoted its technology roadmap
toward a Windows 11 AVD virtual desktop solution. Remarkably, the
Ezysnap application images were easily adapted for delivery on Windows
11, supplanting the original plan to migrate to Server 2022. The customer
expressed immense satisfaction with the outcome, praising Ezysnap for
accomplishing the seemingly impossible task decommissioning 400 applications and migrating 800 applications devoid of installers or requiring business interaction.
